How Alkaline Water will Extend Life and Reduce the Onset of Adult Degenerative Disease

 

We get old and sick due to excess acid in our body. So, it follows if we reduce the acid and increase the alkaline levels we would be healthier and live longer. However, some doctors say that the stomach acid kills the alkalinity so; drinking alkaline water will do no good. Well what about that?

What happens in the stomach when we drink high pH alkaline water? The stomach maintains the pH level at right around 4.0. The more alkaline water we drink the higher the stomach pH goes, sometimes it will rise above 4.5. When this happens the stomach will produce more hydrochloric acid to bring the stomach pH back down to below 4.0.

Hydrochloric acid and sodium bicarbonate is made from water, sodium chloride (table salt) and carbon dioxide. The sodium bicarbonate goes into the bloodstream and the hydrochloric acid goes into the stomach.

The alkaline buffer in our blood is sodium bicarbonate, and it is the alkaline and acid buffers that are constantly monitoring the blood pH to maintain a constant blood pH of 7.365. When the blood becomes too alkaline, the acid buffer goes to work to bring the pH down; and when there is too much alkaline, then the alkaline buffer (sodium bicarbonate) goes to work to raise the pH level.

“Alkaline buffers are bicarbonate (HCO3-) mated with alkaline minerals. Examples of them are sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3), potassium bicarbonate (KHCO3), calcium bicarbonate (Ca(HCO3)2) and magnesium bicarbonate (Mg(HCO3)2). Acid buffer is mainly carbonic acid (H2CO3), a water and carbon dioxide combination. It was Lynda Frassetto, University of California, San Francisco, who discovered in 1966 that we lose the alkaline buffer – bicarbonates in our blood as we age. The process seems to begin at age 45 and by 90 we have lost 18% of the bicarbonates in our blood.

When the bicarbonates in our blood are reduced it impairs the body’s ability to neutralize and dump the acid our body produces. It is also at the age of around 45 that symptoms of diabetes, or osteoporosis and other diseases related to the aging process occur. When these acidic wastes are not released from the body and begin to build up, theses wastes take the form of fatty acid, sulfate, phosphate, uric acid, cholesterol, kidney stones, etc.

It is only the water’s pH value that helps the blood receive bicarbonates. It is the most important function of alkaline water since we lose these bicarbonates as we age. When we alkalize our body we increase the ability of our blood to neutralize the acid.

Our world has changed from an organic, agricultural base to one that is industrial and toxic. And because of the greed of our industries a lot of these toxins have found their way into our air, water, food, and alas our bodies. The more pollution, the more stress the more acid. High protein diets and soft drinks also add to the acidity and this is why we lose bicarbonates in the blood as we age.

Only when the stomach produces hydrochloric acid do bicarbonates enter the bloodstream. So it is best to drink the alkaline water on an empty stomach with the water having a pH level of 9.5 -10. The reason for this is the alkaline will raise the stomach pH relatively high and that will cause the stomach to produce more hydrochloric acid, allowing for more bicarbonates to enter the blood. Fruits and vegetables are the answer to a healthy and balanced body, which functions optimally thus leading to a longer life span. Alkaline vegetables are the call of time. About 80% of our food intake should be alkaline vegetables and alkaline fruits and no more than 20% of the entire food intake should be acidic.

Keep the bamboo shoots dipped in some lemon syrup for about 30 min. Peel and cut a few potatoes and add a large tomatoes and a glass of water and the bamboo shoots to the vessel. All these are alkaline vegetables. Boil all the ingredients for half an hour add spices according to taste and simmer for another twenty minutes you will have a lovely soupy dish to be eaten with rice or just consumed as it is. The oriental races consume bamboo shoots and one can see that they have a longer life span and healthier bodies due to this alkaline vegetable.

Leek is also an alkaline vegetable and most French women claim that it is their secret for not gaining weight. Leek soup is easy to make and delicious to have. If a bit of garlic is added to the leek soup we have two alkaline vegetables at the same time. Garlic is very good for cleansing the body of toxic wastes and should be added to most of the meals for it?s alkalizing effect.

Egg plant though not a green vegetable family member is still an alkaline vegetable. Eggplants can be consumed in a variety of ways. Cheese and eggplant bakes are tingling for the taste buds. Eggplants with a few potatoes can make a lovely alkaline vegetable dish. For children try out mashed eggplant as a side dish.

Acid and Alkaline Foods and The pH Diet

 

There is a saying that goes, " we are what we eat. " In fact, if people take a deeper look at the food being consumed, only then will the person realize that a lot of it are unhealthy which is why most people are obese.

The reason is because the most of these are acidic or have a high concentration of alkaline in it. Some examples of acidic foods are peanuts, meat, sugar, beans and legumes. Those that contain alkaline are certain vegetables, fruits and juices.

The types of beverages available also has high concentrations of acid. Coke and beer for example has a pH2 while coffee that has caffeine is a pH 4.

This is not harmful in small amounts but when someone eats for example a slab of steak together with a can or two of beer, then there is bound to be a problem in the future. This is because micro form and pathogens start to develop and this will spread to different areas of the body.

The body defense mechanisms will do its best to regulate the pH levels. However, it has limitations and when it can not, the person may suffer a stroke or other sicknesses that could permanently paralyze the individual or be fatal.

One way the body does this is by using calcium. Everyone knows this is good for the bones and lack of it especially in women may lead to osteoporosis.

Children who drink milk often can prevent this from happening but once the person reaches adulthood, things are different. This is because milk also has a high acid content so this can be regulated by substituting this with skim or Soy milk instead.

The example just shown has happened to many people. This is the reason scientists and doctors recommend those who are overweight to exercise and make some lifestyle changes like going on a pH diet.

One way is by changing the way the food is cooked. Instead of frying it, a healthier way is by steaming it. The person may even reduce red meat and change this with fish. A dietitian will be helpful in planning a menu and it would not hurt to read up and experiment on new recipes.

As for drinks, the person should stay away from coffee or dark colas. This is because the regular and the diet versions still contains elements of phosphoric acid. A healthier alternative will be freshly squeezed juice, tea or water.

The person does not have to wait until something should happen and one is off to the clinic or the hospital. This is the reason that people are encourage to visit the doctor at least once a year to check if everything is normal.

At home, the individual can buy pH strips that can check if one is acidic. This is done through a urine test and if this is between 6.75 and 7.25, then the body is maintaining the right pH level.

Should this be higher or lower, then the person is potential health risk. There is another version that can tell if this is normal or not based on color and the results will determine whether or not it is time to make some changes.

There are other things to watch out for to ensure healthy living and the first step is by watching what is being eaten because too much acid or alkaline in foods can be dangerous to one's health.
