The Mystery of Acid and Alkaline Ph

The notion of acid and alkaline is one of the most misunderstood concepts in nutrition. It is commonly referred to as terrain medicine, a reference to treating the whole individual. It has been established that PH in the blood, saliva, urine, and other areas is a critical factor for building health.

How can you determine an acid or alkaline condition?

Blood work, saliva tests, hair analysis, muscle resistance and urine are just some of the tests being recommended by current nutrition experts. Most of these tests can show relative amounts of acid or alkaline, which is very interesting to compare.

But what people do not know is that there are so many varieties of acid and alkaline appearing in the system that to get any conclusive results about acid and alkaline status. It is still best to read the intracellular fluid—a test rarely performed.

Most current diagnostic tests show the acid wastes are present in the body fluids such as blood, lymph, urine, mucus and saliva. The problem with such tests is that they do not show how much acid waste is within the cellular fluids since these fluids are running through tissues and removing acid wastes.

It might be possible to measure the relative acid or alkalinity of body fluids. But it is rare and more complicated to evaluate the acid or alkaline quality of body tissues such as skin, organs, glands, muscles, ligaments, arteries, and vessels. The majority of standard tests focus mainly on saliva, urine, or blood.

What does all these mean?

The tissue quality of skin, organs, glands, muscles, ligaments, arteries, and vessels is the determining factor of your health. When acid wastes are not eliminated, they are reabsorbed through the colon, gets filtered through the liver, and end up being re-released into the general circulation. Simply means that you are re-circulating waste, when it is supposed to be cleansed and rejuvenated already.

Even measuring a person's blood for acid and alkaline variations is not an easy task. When acid is introduced into the blood, alkaline minerals from other parts of the body are immediately mobilized to maintain a crucial pH balance of 7.35 to 7.45. The blood cannot tolerate elevated acidity. It must alkalize.

To do this, it goes on an alkaline borrowing spree immediately, with no intention of paying back the bone, tissue, and digestive juice mineral donors. This means that to do a blood test for an accurate acid and alkaline reading, testing would require your doctor to take blood samples at numerous intervals throughout the day and only after eating one particular food to obtain a good reading.

Very exhausting, costly, and still not that reliable.

A number of nutrition writers suggest testing acid and alkaline levels with litmus paper (saliva) or urinalysis sticks (urine). Determining acid and alkaline though pH testing is assumptive, simplistic, and misleading.

Saliva or urine is not reflective of your overall acidity. Such arbitrary and unpredictable testing does not read the cellular fluid or tissue quality of skin, organs, glands, muscles, ligaments, arteries, and vessels. It can only give in a partial evaluation.

The proof of your body's acid and alkaline condition can best be determined by your own experience, not by peer-reviewed studies, medical establishment support, or static dietary guidelines.

Without getting too technical, the most practical advice would be to experiment for several weeks with a food plan that stays close to the middle of the acid and alkaline scale. Check out some diet that is high on both. You will notice dramatic and positive changes that can only be attributed to your experiment. This will be your best doctor.

Also, the negative symptoms associated with excess acidity are probably infinite. It is not the symptoms that needed to be addressed. It is also not the root cause, the way you eat, or exposure to stress and its effect on blood chemistry, resistance, and daily strength.

Acid and alkaline nutritional research should become a valid foundation for determining dietary safety and healing protocols. Maybe in the near future, medicine and nutritional experts will finally give more focus and emphasis on the importance of acid and alkaline. People have not seen what they do and what they can do to the body just yet.

Choosing Alkaline Diets Is The Only Way To Live A Healthy Lifestyle

The low carbohydrate and high protein diets doing the rounds these days are an invitation to bad health. All athletes know that if a fit body is to be maintained one should steer completely clear of such diets. Not only do they result in extreme fatigue but also are a disaster where weight management is concerned. Choosing alkaline diets is the only way to live a healthy life as well as shed those extra pounds.

Alkaline diets require one to follow a life style completely opposite of the high protein low carb diets. The high protein diets leave the person following it fatigued and tired. It is for those who lead a stagnant life and want to shed some weight. But the weight that is lost comes back on as soon as one stops the diet. With alkaline diets this is not the case. The diets can be incorporated into ones way of life and within days the results start to show. Alkaline diets require one to eat about 80 % alkalizing foods so as to maintain the alkaline ph of the body to 7.4. High protein diets tend to make the ph of the body acidic as opposed to its natural alkaline tilt. When the body ph becomes acidic it attracts all illnesses and depletes one of energy. An acidic ph also results in rapid degeneration of the human body cells. That leads to a shortened life. One should stay away from these crash diets and look at achieving health and vigor by following alkaline diets instead.

Alkaline diets lead to the body ph maintaining its alkaline nature. The various body functions are carried out smoothly and the immune system of the body stays strong. Under these circumstances one feels energetic as opposed to feeling fatigued. Also the weight shed like this stays off and most importantly the body does not fall sick. In other words alkaline diets help repel diseases as opposed to high protein diets which seem to attract them. Alkaline diets are also very good for those suffering from chronic diseases like arthritis, cancer, migraines, sinusitis and also osteoporosis. Following alkaline diets while taking medication helps fight these diseases off from the root.

Alkaline diets constitute mostly of fruits and vegetables. One should try and consume green vegetables and sweet fruits so that they make up about 70 to 80 percent of their total food intake. Lemons and melons should also be eaten. Almonds, honey, and olive oil are also high on the list of foods to be consumed for following alkaline diets. Meats and fats should be avoided. All foods that are acidifying like coffee, alcohol, meats, and even certain vegetables like cooked spinach should not form more than 20% of ones diet. Alkaline water is also a must or those who want to follow alkaline diets. At least 6 to 8 glasses of alkaline water can do wonders for your body cleansing. Processed food is all acidic and also high on weight gaining substances and so should be avoided. Beverages like sodas are highly acidic and should not be consumed at all. It takes 32 glasses of water to balance out one glass of soda.

Alkaline diets are for everyone. Each one of us should stop abusing our bodies and look at a healthy and long life by making alkaline diets a part of our life style.

How I Alkaline- Without a Rabbit Food Diet

The health concept of alkalinity, through consuming an alkaline diet, has been around for a long time, but it has gotten a lot more traction in the last five years, and seems to be the next up and coming health trend.

Remember High School chemistry? Liquids are either base or alkaline. Our bodies are no different. And here's a very interesting fact: While our bodies are supposed to be slightly alkaline, about 7.2 on the scale, our diets and lifestyle habits make the vast majority of us too acidic. And this acidity provides an environment where disease and germs flourish.

"If I could live my life over again, I would devote it to proving that germs seek their natural habitat- diseased tissue- rather than being the cause of the diseased tissue; e.g., mosquitoes seek the stagnant water, but do not cause the pool to become stagnant."

-Rudolph Virchow (Father of Pathology)

I learned about this concept about a year ago. Everything I read said that an alkaline diet had to be almost exclusively green and yellow vegetables, nuts, water and "green drinks" (A.K.A. swamp water- gag), but I tried it anyway. Here are a few things an alkaline diet promises:

-Increased energy -Immunity from disease -Your body weight will drop to what it should be naturally -You will more easily build and maintain lean muscle mass

To quote Anthony Robbins, personal development guru:

"?you will experience a revolution in the quality of your life. The simple understanding of which foods produce the most energy for your body and the impact of the acid/ alkaline balance will add immeasurable value to your life."

So I jumped in, and started what I refer to now as the "rabbit food diet." I first of all bought a PH test kit from the health food store and tested my level. I was acidic, measuring 6.0. But after 6 weeks of the rabbit food diet I was much improved! I got up to 6.5. Now that may not sound that great to you, but the scale is a geometric one, 6 is ten times more acidic than 7, 5 is ten times more acidic than 6, and so on.

Here's the problem; I didn't like being on a rabbit food diet. I love food! I decided I would rather die a little earlier and take my chances than eliminate all the tasty stuff I enjoy.

But recently I was given two handy little tips that got me intrigued again. First of all I was introduced to a different water additive than the green drinks I had tried, that had no flavor and was less expensive. Before I took any I tested my alkaline level again. It was right back to where I started, 6.0. I took this handy little supplement for two weeks and didn't make any other dietary changes, and much to my surprise when I tested again my level had gone up to 6.75, higher than when I was doing the strict alkaline diet!

The other discovery I made was a simple little concept called Michi's Ladder. Michi's Ladder is a five tiered chart, that ranks foods from the best (tier one) down to the worst (tier 5). They say if you eat only foods from tiers one and two you will have a perfect diet. I don't know who "they" are, but looking at the chart it sounds right. It is more liberal than the all veggie diet. You can find this chart easily by doing a Google search for "Michi's ladder".

So I stuck the Michi's Ladder chart on my fridge and tried to pick foods from the top every time I had a meal or snack.

I can now personally vouch for the whole Alkalinity argument. I now have vibrant energy, I have lost excess fat, I don't feel like I need a nap every after noon like I used to, and at the age of 40 I am competing with the young guys in my Triathlons and basketball games. And I was able to do it without giving up my social life!

What You Need To Know About An Alkaline Ash Diet

The benefits of an alkaline ash diet is an opportunity not just to talk about, but to experience an extraordinary, healthy lifestyle.

The alkaline ash diet attempts to answer the question of how can we prevent our health from deteriorating, or better yet, how can we regain our youth. The alkaline diet is your chance to learn how to create a level of consistent health and energy. Apply the principle seriously and judge their vitality first hand by the results they produce.

A part that plays major important in an alkaline ash diet is to hydrate properly. Since the water we drink provides for all cellular and bodily functions (digestion, respiration, perspiration, elimination just to name a few), the decrease in our daily water intake affects the efficiency of all cellular activity. Water is also quite possibly the single most important catalyst in losing weight and keeping it off.

The other major part of the alkaline ash diet is the foods you eat. Do you ever wonder why children have so much energy? They are constantly running, playing and expanding energy that seems to come from a nuclear reactor. We all used to be like that. Ever wonder why we changed?

Although this change in energy takes place over a number of years, you could get a glimpse of what causes it by observing your daily activities right now. Take a moment to recall the last time you had pasta and meatballs, steak and eggs, a hamburger. How did you feel 20 minutes afterwards? Did you feel an almost immediate drop in energy? This is where an alkaline ash diet turns things around.

These 2 important factors combined will help your body regain lost energy and help with the causes of many diseases.

Acid and Alkaline Foods and The pH Diet

There is a saying that goes, " we are what we eat. " In fact, if people take a deeper look at the food being consumed, only then will the person realize that a lot of it are unhealthy which is why most people are obese.

The reason is because the most of these are acidic or have a high concentration of alkaline in it. Some examples of acidic foods are peanuts, meat, sugar, beans and legumes. Those that contain alkaline are certain vegetables, fruits and juices.

The types of beverages available also has high concentrations of acid. Coke and beer for example has a pH2 while coffee that has caffeine is a pH 4.

This is not harmful in small amounts but when someone eats for example a slab of steak together with a can or two of beer, then there is bound to be a problem in the future. This is because micro form and pathogens start to develop and this will spread to different areas of the body.

The body defense mechanisms will do its best to regulate the pH levels. However, it has limitations and when it can not, the person may suffer a stroke or other sicknesses that could permanently paralyze the individual or be fatal.

One way the body does this is by using calcium. Everyone knows this is good for the bones and lack of it especially in women may lead to osteoporosis.

Children who drink milk often can prevent this from happening but once the person reaches adulthood, things are different. This is because milk also has a high acid content so this can be regulated by substituting this with skim or Soy milk instead.

The example just shown has happened to many people. This is the reason scientists and doctors recommend those who are overweight to exercise and make some lifestyle changes like going on a pH diet.

One way is by changing the way the food is cooked. Instead of frying it, a healthier way is by steaming it. The person may even reduce red meat and change this with fish. A dietitian will be helpful in planning a menu and it would not hurt to read up and experiment on new recipes.

As for drinks, the person should stay away from coffee or dark colas. This is because the regular and the diet versions still contains elements of phosphoric acid. A healthier alternative will be freshly squeezed juice, tea or water.

The person does not have to wait until something should happen and one is off to the clinic or the hospital. This is the reason that people are encourage to visit the doctor at least once a year to check if everything is normal.

At home, the individual can buy pH strips that can check if one is acidic. This is done through a urine test and if this is between 6.75 and 7.25, then the body is maintaining the right pH level.

Should this be higher or lower, then the person is potential health risk. There is another version that can tell if this is normal or not based on color and the results will determine whether or not it is time to make some changes.

There are other things to watch out for to ensure healthy living and the first step is by watching what is being eaten because too much acid or alkaline in foods can be dangerous to one's health.
